The VIASM Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (VCTLI) was officially launched on 22 May 2026 under the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM).

The Center’s mission is to protect and cultivate mathematical thinking in an age of artificial intelligence. We bring together mathematics educators, cognitive scientists, and AI researchers to study a defining question of our time: how can AI augment — rather than replace — the human capacity for mathematical reasoning?

VCTLI serves as a national and international hub for research, teacher development, and educational innovation, with a long-term commitment to improving mathematics education in Hanoi and across Vietnam.

Research Focus

  • AI & Mathematical Cognition: Studying the cognitive paradox of AI-assisted vs. AI-dependent problem solving
  • Teacher Capacity Development: Designing and scaling professional learning programs for mathematics teachers
  • Experimental Classroom Models: Piloting and evaluating innovative instructional approaches
  • Learning Environment Design: Developing Math Maker Spaces and inquiry-based learning environments
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Translating research into policy-relevant insights for educators and decision-makers
